Jon Christopher Gernon's work draws from pieces of the past, whether it's the inspiration he derives from ancient mythology, the Renaissance period or the centuries-old techniques, (egg tempera and oil, metalpoint and watercolor) that he uses in creating art. In this way, he strives to bring the past and the present together. Using elements associated with symbolism, sensualism and magic realism, he blends history with contemporary ideas.

"With my work, I try to bring the use of classical techniques and subject matter into the 21st century. In doing so, I allow my art to tell stories, but stories the viewer could construct on their own, unconstrained by whatever my ideas of the stories are."
